Full Professor of Processes and Industrial Chemical Plants Sapienza University of Rome, Italy Marco Petrangeli Papini is Full Professor of Processes and Industrial Chemical Plants at the Department of Chemistry, Sapienza University of Rome. He obtained his MSc in Industrial Chemistry with honours and a PhD in Chemical Sciences and has been continuously active in academic research and teaching since 1995. His research focuses on the development and application of chemical, biological, and integrated technologies for the remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater, with particular emphasis on chlorinated solvents, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, and complex contaminated matrices. His work combines process modelling, experimental characterization, and field-scale applications, with a strong orientation toward sustainable and transferable remediation solutions. He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications, contributed to over 80 international conferences, and is co-inventor of five industrial patents. He has served as scientific coordinator or principal investigator in numerous national and European research projects, including Horizon-funded initiatives. Professor Petrangeli Papini has been appointed foreign member of the Oil and Gas Section of the Russian Academy of Sciences, contributing his expertise on contaminated site management and remediation technologies. He has also served as member of technical and scientific committees supporting the Italian Ministry of the Environment, particularly in activities related to the remediation of National Priority Contaminated Sites and the reorganization of environmental regulations. He is Chair of the Master’s Degree in Industrial Chemistry and Scientific Director of the II-level Master on Characterization and Technologies for the Remediation of Contaminated Sites at Sapienza University of Rome. He is also Founder and CEO of Trireme, a university spin-off providing advanced and sustainable remediation technologies. Since 2023, he has served as Scientific Counselor to the Italian Navy on environmental impact and remediation issues.
