Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Shahrul Yani Said is a leading scholar at the College of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), specializing in heritage conservation, urban regeneration, and sustainable architecture. She earned her Ph.D. from Oxford Brookes University, an M.A. in Conservation Studies from the University of York, and a B.Arch from the International Islamic University Malaysia. Dr. Shahrul has published extensively in renowned journals, including articles such as:  "Townscape Appraisal and Contribution of Physical Features Towards the Character of Ipoh Old Town" (Planning Malaysia, 2020)  "The Impact of Urbanisation on Cultural Identity and Townscape Characteristics of Kuala Lumpur China Town" (WIT Transactions, 2020)  "Performance Review through Post-Occupancy Audit on Refurbished Listed Public Building in Kuala Lumpur" (Journal of Asian Behavioral Studies, 2018).  “Effective Building Surveying Using Laser Scanning for Heritage Building” (The International Journal of Sustainable Construction Engineering and Technology, 2023) Her research is supported by prestigious grants, including:  Kajian Dilapidasi Bangunan Warisan Malaysia (RM75,000, 2023) for conservation studies in Labuan and Melaka.  Advanced 3D Heritage Building Defect Assessment using LiDAR technology (RM141,200, 2021).  Preventive Fire Protection Content Analysis for Heritage Buildings (RM25,000, 2018). Dr. Shahrul actively supervises research at all academic levels, guiding students on diverse topics such as sustainable heritage conservation, energy-efficient retrofitting, and digital heritage documentation. Her supervision portfolio includes Ph.D. theses like:  "Spatial Cognition for Safety Baseline Indication in Heritage Areas"  "Comparative Assessment of Thermal Comfort in Energy Conservation between Modern Terrace Houses and Traditional Malay Houses."  “The Imperative of Urban Heritage Conservation in Portraying the Identity of Early Malay Towns in Malaysia”  “Comparative Assessment of Thermal Comfort Concerning Energy Conservation between Modern Terrace Houses and Traditional Malay House”  “Sustainable Heritage: Historic Building Information Modelling (HBIM) For Green Retrofitting Of Heritage Buildings In Malaysia’. As Deputy Director (Research Impact) at UiTM's Research Management Centre, she oversees projects integrating cultural preservation with cutting-edge green technologies, enhancing Malaysia's urban and heritage landscapes. Besides a Registered Conservator, Dr. Shahrul also serves as a Professional Technologist (Ts.) and a committed member of ICOMOS Malaysia, advocating for the intersection of heritage conservation and environmental sustainability.
