Dr. Sc. Andrey Gitin graduated from the University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (St. Petersburg, Russia) in 1978 and started to work as a researcher at S.I. Vavilov State Optical Institute (St. Petersburg, Russia). Here he defended his Ph. D. (Methods of radiometric calculations based on the principles of the theory of optical devices, 1991) and Dr. Sc. (Duality principle in optics, radiometry and illumination engineering, 1998). His theses were devoted to the search for new methodological approaches and modern mathematical tools for a more compact and effective presentation of traditional sections of optics: geometrical and wave theories, radiometry and illumination engineering. From 2000 to 2002 he taught general and applied physics at G.V. Plekhanov State Mining Institute (St. Petersburg, Russia). In 2002 he moved to Germany. In Berlin he worked as a visiting scientist at Max-Born-Institute of the non-lineal and fast optics (2005-2015) and the Institute of Optics and Atomic Physics (2016-2017). Here his work was on transferring the previously tested methodological approaches and mathematical tools from traditional optics to optics of ultra-short laser pulses. Currently, as an independent researcher, he is trying to create a theory that unites three formally independent branches of modern optics: classical optics of black body radiation, optics of monochromatic radiation and optics of ultrashort laser pulses.
