Amir Sa'ar obtained the PhD in Physics from Tel-Aviv University in 1988. In 1988 he received the Fulbright fellowship and joined the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) as a postdoc. In 1991 he joined the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel as a faculty member and, since 1998 as a Professor of Applied Physics. His research interests include developing low-dimensional semiconductor nanostructures, particularly silicon-based nanostructures such as porous silicon and silicon nanocrystals, and their utilization for electronics, photonics, sensing and photovoltaic applications. He has published more than 150 papers in scientific journals and conferences and has delivered numerous presentations and invited talks in international conferences and meetings. Prof. Sa’ar is among the founders of the Hebrew University Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and the former academic director of the research infrastructure of the center.}
