Jae-Jin Shim received his BS degree from Seoul National University in Korea in 1980, an MS degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1982, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. He worked as a research scientist (1982-1986) and as a senior research scientist (1991-1994) at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).He was a professor at Yeungnam University (1994-2023) and is an emeritus professor since 2023. He served as the President of the Korean Society of Clean Technology andthe Vice President of the Korean Society of Engineering Education. He has also served as the Director of the Institute of Clean Technology for 11 years and the Director of the Clean Energy Priority Research Center supported by the Korean Government for 9 years until 2023. He has published 310 papers in reputed journals, filed 37 patents, and wrote or edited 14 books. He has served as the Chief Editor of “Clean Technology”and the Editor of “The Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering.”He received two Commendations from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea. His current research interests are synthesizing and applying graphene, MXene, and perovskite-based nanomaterials for energy storage (supercapacitors), water splitting and wastewater treatment, and sensors.
